This month, the Native Lands Advocacy Project (NLAP) wrapped up our webinar series: Keystone Data Tools for Native Land Planning. These webinars introduced attendees to three foundational datasets that Native Nations & citizens can use to make informed, sovereign decisions for their futures:
- The USDA Census of Agriculture for American Indian Reservations
- The National Land Cover Database
- The Cropland Data Layer
Using these three datasets, NLAP has developed dashboards and maps that directly support tribal planning. We refer to these as our “keystone data tools” because they can be used for complex, multi-faceted analyses of land usage, agricultural activities, economic opportunities, historical trends, climate change impacts, food systems, and more. Many of NLAP’s more specialized data tools—such as our Lost Agriculture Revenue Database, our Food Systems Transition Index, and our Crop Diversity dashboard—build off of these keystone datasets.
The webinars were recorded and are now published on our YouTube channel; you can also view them below.
Learn about NLAP’s USDA Census of Agriculture Dashboard, which allows for wide exploration and deep analysis of the agricultural census data for your reservation.
Learn how to access cropland cover data for your reservation using NLAP’s CDL dashboard. Observe historical trends in cropland cover and use current data for land, climate, and agricultural planning.
We’re thankful to everyone who attended, asked questions, and shared feedback! NLAP is committed to our grassroots stakeholders and users, and we take every piece of feedback we get into serious consideration. To that end, please consider sharing your thoughts on the two questions below.
