Social Media Strategist

Part-Time (Up to 20hrs/week)

The Native Lands Advocacy Project (NLAP), developer of the Native Land Information System (NLIS), is seeking qualified individuals for a paid, remote, part-time position. NLAP and the NLIS are projects of Village Earth, a publicly supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fort Collins, Colorado. We seek individuals with an interest and passion for promoting indigenous natural resources stewardship, environmental justice, food sovereignty, Native agriculture, Native climate resiliency, and Native land issues.

Compensation is $16-$20 per hour, depending on experience. Students and professionals of Native American descent are highly encouraged to apply. This position may have the opportunity to grow into a full-time role, given that the applicant is a good fit for the team and funding allows.

 

Job Summary

The Social Media Strategist will work closely as part of the Village Earth and NLAP team to grow VE’s and NLAP’s social media reach by developing targeted and compelling content to be shared on various social media channels. They will help build a presence for VE and NLAP in the nonprofit and Native American social media spaces respectively, and will stay promptly engaged with comments and DMs.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of contemporary Native American issues and a passion for advocating for Native rights and promoting Native causes.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Graphic design experience with Adobe Creative Cloud and Canva
  • Social media management experience (including using management tools such as Hootsuite or Loomly): Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Twitter/X
  • Proficiency with Google Analytics and Google Data Studio
  • Experience working with the Google Ad Grant (optional, but preferred)

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop monthly social media strategies, including targeted posts/campaigns for relevant events and/or developments in Indian Country
  • Develop social media fundraising campaigns for Village Earth, and draw traffic to VE’s individual Global Affiliate profiles
  • Utilize graphic design platforms (Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud, or other comparable platforms) to create social media graphics and content 
  • Set and maintain a regular posting schedule
  • Maintain timely engagement with followers and regularly monitor comment sections
  • When appropriate, engage with and share content from our partners or others working in similar spaces
  • Collaborate with the Outreach team to maintain a regular posting schedule for content; participate in weekly staff meetings
  • Create and share monthly engagement/analytics reports with the team
