This map displays soil classifications and their viability for use as farmland. Soil classifications are from the USDA’s SSURGO (Soil Survey Geographic Database), which contains information about soil as collected by the National Cooperative Soil Survey over the course of a century. The information was gathered by walking over the land and observing the soil. Many soil samples were analyzed in laboratories.

This soil data on US Native Lands is presented here so it could be used by tribes for Natural Resources Planning.
