Village Earth’s Native Lands Advocacy Project is seeking a full-time natural resources and agriculture specialist to support direct outreach to Tribes and Native organizations and indirectly through the development of interactive planning and decision support tools accessible through our online Native Land Information System (NLIS) at https://nativeland.info.
Individuals with Native American, Alaskan or Hawaiian descent are strongly encouraged to apply.
Tasks
- Work closely with NLAP staff, native organizations and tribal stakeholders to develop planning and decision support tools related to meeting requirements for the development and/or renewal of Integrated Resources Management Plans (IMRPs) and Agriculture Resources Management Plans (ARMPs).
- Work closely with NLAP staff, native organizations and tribal stakeholders to develop planning and decision support tools to enhance resilience of native nations in response to the climate crisis.
- Work closely with NLAP staff, native organizations and tribal stakeholders to support the development and maintenance of bison herds on Native lands.
Minimum Requirements for Application to be considered
- Direct experience working with native communities, native organizations, or tribes
- Knowledge of native land tenure issues.
- Masters (or Bachelors degree with at least 3 years work experience) in agriculture, natural resources, biodiversity, rangeland ecology, horticulture or related fields.
- Proven research and writing experience, preferably in a similar role (samples will be required)
- Comfortable working and collaborating in a remote work environment.
- Comfortable using Google Workspace (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides)
Desired But not Required.
- Experience developing tribal ARMPs and/or IRMPs
- Proficiency with ArcGIS or QGIS
- Statististics (R, JASP)
- Data visualization with Tableau
$40,000 – $57,000 per year plus bennefits

The NLAP is a project of Village Earth and the developer of the Native Land Information System (NLIS); an online repository of native land agricultural, climate and natural resource management data.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic team dedicated to promoting native agriculture and tribal sovereignty in the United States. You will be supervised and guided through the work but are expected to adapt quickly to a fast-moving applied research setting.
Individuals with Native American, Alaskan or Hawaiian descent are strongly encouraged to apply.
Tasks:
- Work with colleagues to plan, design, develop and deploy maps, data tools and visualizations.
- Research, procure, clean, and transform tabular and spatial data
- Write metadata and summary reports
- Keep projects and tasks on schedule
Requirements:
- Bachelors degree in GIS, Data Science, Natural Resources, Agriculture, or Social Sciences.
- Experience using QGIS/ArcGIS, and Excel.
- Desire and willingness to learn new skills and software
- Comfortable working independently but also as part of a team
Desired Skills:
- Experience using Tableau and Tableau Prep
- Experience/Skills using Google Earth Engine
- Experience/Skills using ArcGIS Online
- Experience/Skills using R and/or Python
- Experience using WordPress and/or publishing content on websites
- Other quantitative/mixed methods data analysis skills
Salary
$35,000 – $45,000 per year

- Work with colleagues and stakeholders to plan, research, and write blog posts, story maps, reports, and other materials related to Native American agriculture and land issues.
- Library and archivial reseach
- Be able to intrepret and contextualize data and charts for non-academic audiences.
- Keep projects and tasks on schedule
Requirements:
- Experience working with Native American communities
- Bachelors degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, History, Journalism, or a Social Science.
- Experience using Google Docs, Excel, MS Word
- Desire and willingness to learn new skills and software
- Comfortable working independently but also as part of a team
Desired Skills:
- Masters Degree degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, History, Journalism, or a Social Science.
- Experience using WordPress and/or publishing content on websites
- Experience developing storymaps using ArcGIS online.
- Knowledge of Native Land Issues, Tribal Integrated Resource Management and or Agricultural Resource Management planning.
Salary
$40,000 – $50,000 per year
